Because of the prevailing heat wave it has been decided to approve the proposals of the Boards to reschedule the summer vacation which will now start from 2nd May, 2014 and end on 31st May, 2014. https://wbxpress.com/summer-vacation-school-heat-wave/

I appreciate the govt.’s decision of rescheduling the summer vacation in view of the prevailing heat wave in some parts of west bengal. But the govt.should have been more specific as we know west bengal is generally considered to be an amalgamation of south bengal and north bengal.Every year south bengal experiences extreme heat in the summer months unlike north bengal where the weather is much pleasant. Many would agree that the heat here is bearable and has not crossed the normal range. In fact north bengal experiences extreme rainfall during monsoons which generally starts from june and so here what we need is not only summer vacation but monsoon-summer vacation and that isSo preponing the summer vacation in north bengal would put us into trouble.

The duration of summer is different in north bengal and south bengal. The decision regarding the duration of summer vacation may be ok for south bengal, but it may not suitable for the students of north bengal. The main problem here is the rainy season… which starts normally in and around june. Students of different parts of north bengal faces a lot of problem to go to school, only due to the geographical barriers, i.e. tea garden, small hilly area, rivers which mostly wake up during this season. The decision needs discussion.
